Jaggery is sweet in nature and it is a good replacement of sugar and give many health benefits. In India, it is known as ‘gur‘ and most people used this. This superfood sweetener called by different names in different places

  • Japan- Kokuto
  • Malaysia- Gula Melaka
  • Mexico- Piloncillo
  • Colombia- Panels

How Jaggery Made?

It made with 3 Steps Process-

Extraction– Sugar canes are pressed into the machine to extract the sweet juice.

Clarification– Sweet juice collects in large containers so that any sediment settles to the bottom.

Concentration– After producing a clear liquid, sweeten juice is placed in the large flat bottomed pan and boiled until yellow or dough-like paste remains.

Then it is transferred to containers where it cools and turns into jaggery.

Total Carbohydrates– 96g

Protein– 0.4g

Vitamins– B12, B6

Fat– 0.1gram

Minerals– Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, iron.

Jaggery Side Effects

Excessive consumption of sugar can increase the risk of chronic diseases (obesity, heart diseases, and type 2 diabetes). Jaggery is a different variation of sugar. Eating too much sugar, it’s not a good idea.  You should also avoid it in the summer season.
